Barney’s Farm Seeds: Who They Are, Cup Winners and Where to Start

barney's farm logo

Barney’s Farm is an Amsterdam cannabis seed breeder that grew out of Barney’s Coffeeshop in Amsterdam and went on to win the overall High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam ten times. Its catalog runs from cup-winning hazes and classic landraces to modern dessert strains like Black Cherry Gushers, Super Boof and Gorilla Zkittlez, plus a large autoflower line built on its own BF Super Auto #1.

This guide covers who Barney’s Farm is, which strains won cups, what our customers buy most, and how to pick between Barney’s feminized, autoflower and regular seeds. Seeds & Clones carries 108 Barney’s Farm listings, and every strain named below links to its own page. For the full list in one place, see our Barney’s Farm seeds page.

Who is Barney’s Farm?

Barney’s Farm started with Derry, its founder, who spent the early 1980s in the Himalayas learning how village farmers grew and selected cannabis. He came back to Amsterdam with landrace seeds and opened Barney’s Coffeeshop on Haarlemmerstraat, where growers gathered to trade cuttings through the late 1980s. By the early 1990s that back-room trading had become a real breeding program, and the seed company grew up beside the coffeeshop. That is why so many Barney’s strains were first tested on customers across the counter.

Barney’s Farm marks its 40th year in 2026, and the catalog is still growing: new releases keep arriving alongside the classics, and Seeds & Clones adds them as they come in.

Barney’s Farm is a breeder, not a seed bank. It breeds and packages its own seeds, and shops like Seeds & Clones carry them alongside other breeders. If you searched for “Barney’s seeds” or “Barneys Farm seed bank,” this is the company you were looking for.

Barney’s Farm Cannabis Cup winners

From 2001 to 2011, Barney’s took the overall prize at the Amsterdam High Times Cannabis Cup ten times with nine different strains, plus a long list of hash, product and booth awards. The overall wins:

YearOverall Cannabis Cup winner
2001Sweet Tooth
2002Morning Glory
2004Amnesia Haze
2005Willie Nelson
2006 and 2007G13 Haze, back to back (G13 Haze Regular)
2008Utopia Haze
2009Vanilla Kush
2010Tangerine Dream (now carried as Tangerine Dream Auto)
2011Liberty Haze

Notice how many of those are hazes. Barney’s built its name on tall, fast-hitting sativa lines, and Amnesia Haze is still the reference point for the style: Jamaican, South Asian and Thai genetics, 80% sativa, a 70 to 85 day flower and a Barney’s THC rating of 28%. G13 Haze is G13 crossed with Hawaiian sativa, 80% sativa, 65 to 70 days, and we carry it as regular seeds for growers who want males for breeding.

Barney’s Farm strains our customers buy most

Counted from paid orders at Seeds & Clones, with free promotional packs left out, these five are among the Barney’s strains our customers order most. The list leans classic: four of the five are landraces or old-school strains. Specs below are Barney’s own ratings as listed on each product page.

Acapulco Gold

Acapulco Gold is a Central American sativa, 70% sativa, flowering in 60 to 70 days on a 100 to 110 cm indoor plant. The feminized version is rated 600 to 700 g/m² and 26% THC. It is our most-ordered Barney’s strain, and many of those orders are for Acapulco Gold Regular, rated 700 g/m² and 22% THC, for growers who want males to breed with.

Hindu Kush

Hindu Kush is pure Hindu Kush Mountains landrace: a compact indica, 80 to 120 cm indoors, 55 to 65 days, rated 550 to 600 g/m² and 26% THC. Earthy, hashy and steady. It also comes as Hindu Kush Regular.

Skunk #1

Skunk #1 is the old-school blend of Acapulco Gold, Afghan and Colombian Gold: 65 to 75 days, 120 to 150 cm indoors, rated 500 g/m² and 26% THC. It is sturdy, uniform and classic skunk on the nose. For breeders it also comes as Skunk #1 Regular.

G13 Haze

G13 Haze Regular is the strain that won Barney’s back-to-back Cannabis Cups in 2006 and 2007. G13 crossed with Hawaiian sativa, 80% sativa, 65 to 70 days, rated 600 g/m² and 23% THC, sold as regular seeds.

Insane OG

Insane OG is Bubba Kush x Granddaddy Purple x OG Kush: indica-dominant, 55 to 65 days, 100 to 120 cm, rated 600 g/m² and 32% THC, one of the strongest ratings in the catalog.

Barney’s Farm classics and landraces

Before the dessert strains, Barney’s was a classics house, and that part of the catalog is still deep:

Barney’s Farm modern hits

The newer side of the catalog follows the dessert and candy trend, and much of it carries Barney’s highest THC ratings. A few to know:

Want several in one order? The Candy Pack and Gas Pack each bundle five feminized Barney’s strains: the Candy Pack for dessert and fruit flavors, the Gas Pack for fuel-heavy classics.

Barney’s Farm autoflowers

We carry 24 Barney’s autoflowers. Eighteen of them are built on BF Super Auto #1, Barney’s own autoflowering parent, crossed into a known photoperiod, so the auto keeps the flavor of the original while flowering on its own. Most finish 65 to 75 days from seed and stay 80 to 120 cm tall.

Feminized vs autoflower vs regular Barney’s seeds

Of our 108 Barney’s listings, 76 are feminized photoperiods, 24 are autoflowers and 8 are regular seeds. The difference comes down to what starts flowering and whether you get male plants.

Seed typeWhat starts floweringTiming (Barney’s ratings)Best for
FeminizedThe light schedule. Indoors you switch to 12 hours on, 12 off; outdoors it follows shorter days.Mostly 55 to 75 days of flowering, plus however long you vegBiggest plants and harvests, full control over size
AutoflowerThe plant’s age. No light change needed.Mostly 65 to 75 days from seedShort seasons, small spaces, several runs a year

Barney’s Farm review: what stands out

This is our read of the catalog, based on Barney’s own published specs and what our customers order. It is not a grow test, and we do not quote customer reviews here.

  • A proven track record. Ten overall Cannabis Cup wins in Amsterdam, most of them hazes, and four decades of breeding.
  • Range. True landraces, classic hybrids, modern dessert strains and a full autoflower line, all from one breeder.
  • Flexible pack sizes. Single feminized seeds make it easy to try a strain before buying a full pack.
  • Clear specs. Every listing carries Barney’s flowering time, yield, height and THC rating, so strains are easy to compare.

A few things to plan for. Many of the newest strains are rated 30% THC and up, so start slow. Hazes like Amnesia Haze run long at 70 to 85 days, and sativas like Durban Poison grow tall, so plan on topping or tying down (our cannabis training techniques guide covers how). Popular strains can sell through between restocks, so check each listing for current availability.
